How do I get started with Efficiency's virtual tax services?

Getting started is simple. Visit the Our Services page and click “Start My Return” to access our secure online document portal, where you can safely upload your tax documents for review. 

Once submitted, our office will begin reviewing your information and contact you if additional details are needed. If you have questions or need assistance at any time, you may use the Contact form to schedule an initial consultation, and we’ll walk you through the process.

I uploaded my documents… now what happens?

Once your documents are uploaded through our secure document portal, our office will create a tax profile for you and review your information for completeness and accuracy. You can expect to receive a call within two business days to discuss your return and answer any questions you may have.

After preparation is complete, you will receive a secure copy of your return to review and approve electronically before filing. Your return is submitted to the IRS only after you authorize it.

Following acceptance by the IRS, you will receive confirmation, and you can track your refund status using the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool.

Is my information secure?

Yes! We use encrypted, IRS-approved software and secure document storage systems.

Can I email my tax documents?

No. For your protection, tax documents are only accepted through our secure document portal. Please do not email or text documents containing personal or financial information. If you need assistance, please use our "Contact Us" form and a tax specialist will contact you to walk you through the process.

Why are your services priced lower than some other tax preparers?

Our virtual business model allows us to maintain lower overhead costs, and we pass those savings on to our clients. Lower pricing does not reflect lower quality — all returns are professionally prepared and filed through authorized IRS e-file systems.

Are there any surprise fees?

No! All fees are disclosed before filing. Additional charges only apply if your return requires added forms or services.

What is a simple return?

A simple return generally includes W-2 income, the standard deduction, and one state return, without self-employment income, itemized deductions, rental property, or multiple states.

How long does it take to file my taxes?

Once we receive all necessary documentation from you, the actual preparation and electronic filing of your return can typically be completed within 3 business days. The overall timeline depends on how quickly you provide the required information and your responsiveness to any follow-up questions.

How long does it take to receive my refund?

The IRS typically issues most refunds in less than 21 calendar days. However, the exact timing can vary based on several factors, including the filing method, accuracy of your return, and whether you've chosen direct deposit or a paper check.

How can I receive my refund?

We offer refund delivery through direct deposit, Visa debit card, or printed check through our banking partner (additional fees may apply). You may also choose to receive your refund directly from the IRS via direct deposit or a mailed check at no additional cost.

My refund may be offset for child support or other debts. Can I still file?

Yes. You can and should still file your tax return. Not filing may result in additional penalties or missed credits. If you believe your refund may be offset, you can contact the U.S. Treasury Offset Program at 800-304-3107 (TTY: 866-297-0517) for more information.

My business does not have an established accounting system, where do we start?

Many small businesses face this challenge. We can guide you through the initial steps of organizing your financial records and can even recommend solutions for establishing a basic accounting system to ensure compliance and smooth future tax preparations.

Do I need to be a client to receive a referral incentive?

No. You do not need to be a client to participate. Our referral program offers a $20 incentive for each new client you refer once their tax return has been completed. Referral incentives are issued at the end of the tax season. Incentives apply to new clients only, and self-referrals are not permitted.
